Faculty of Art
Founded in 1898 as the Central Hindu College, the Faculty of Arts at Banaras Hindu University is its oldest and largest faculty. Known as the ‘Mother Faculty’, it remains the nucleus of BHU, offering diverse humanities, professional, and vocational programs across 23 departments in language, culture, philosophy, and more.
Faculty of Social Science
Established in 1971 after bifurcation from the Faculty of Arts, BHU’s Faculty of Social Sciences encompasses five key departments—Economics, History, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology—alongside five research centers including Peace Studies and Women’s Studies, offering a robust blend of undergraduate, postgraduate, and specialized programs.
Institute (Faculty) of Agriculture
Established in 1931 as India’s pioneering institute for postgraduate agricultural education, it evolved into the Faculty of Agriculture in 1968 and was elevated to an autonomous Institute of Agricultural Sciences in 1980. It encompasses diverse departments, boasts extensive research farms, dairy, horticultural units, and a Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
Faculty of Commerce
The Faculty of Commerce, BHU, established in 1940.It offers diverse programs including B.Com. (Hons.), M.Com., and specialized MBAs (Financial Management, Foreign Trade, Risk & Insurance). Attaining full Faculty status in 1965, it is known for its experienced faculty and rich infrastructure, including a dedicated library and computer lab. The institution maintains a strong reputation, attracting students nationwide and internationally for its quality education.
